description | This work covers the redesign of the machine for the evaluation of dry abrasion resistance according to the ASTM G65 standard, from the Universidad del Atlántico; this machine was modified to implement the evaluation of wet abrasion resistance, according to the guidelines established by the ASTM G105 standard, and it was also converted into an automated equipment by means of a PLC. The methodology employed consisted in the first instance in conducting experimental tests to the old equipment (ASTM G65 standard), with which design flaws were detected and the necessary improvements for the implementation of ASTM G105 were identified, and the main elements to install the automated process control were also determined. Then a conceptual design was carried out to select the best option for the manufacture of the structure, based on that, simulations were performed in the SolidWorks software, in order to verify the critical elements of the machine, its permissible loads, validate the deformations, and know the safety factor; then calculations were made to determine the size and shape of the hoppers and the container for the wet abrasion resistance test. In this way, the necessary elements for the construction of the equipment were selected, although some of these elements were designed with a variety of shapes and sizes, which were not found in the market, therefore, it was necessary to manufacture them through different manufacturing processes. In addition, a study was carried out for the selection of the control elements and their fine-tuning, through tests based on ASTM G65 and ASTM G105 standards. The machine developed allows automated tests for the evaluation of dry and wet abrasion. |

Este trabajo abarca el rediseño realizado a la máquina para la evaluación de la resistencia a la abrasión por vía seca regida por la norma ASTM G65, perteneciente a la Universidad del Atlántico; esta máquina se modificó para implementar la evaluación de la resistencia a la abrasión por vía húmeda, según los lineamientos establecidos por la norma ASTM G105, asimismo, se convirtió en un equipo automatizado por medio de un PLC. La metodología empleada, consistió, en primera instancia, en la realización de pruebas experimentales al equipo antiguo (Norma ASTM G65), con las cuales se detectaron fallas en su diseño y se identificaron las mejoras necesarias para la implementación de la norma ASTM G105, se determinaron los elementos principales para instalar el control del proceso de forma automatizada. Luego, se realizó un diseño conceptual que permitió seleccionar la mejor opción para la fabricación de la estructura, posteriormente, se realizaron simulaciones en el software SolidWorks, con el fin de verificar los elementos críticos de la máquina, sus cargas permisibles, validar las deformaciones, y conocer el factor de seguridad. Del mismo modo, se hicieron los cálculos para determinar el tamaño y forma adecuada de las tolvas y del contenedor de la prueba para resistencia por abrasión húmeda. De esta manera, se seleccionaron los elementos necesarios para la construcción del equipo, aunque algunos de estos elementos fueron diseñados con una variedad de formas y tamaños, los cuales no se encontraron en el mercado, por ende, fue necesaria su fabricación mediante diferentes procesos de manufactura. Al mismo tiempo, se realizó un estudio para la selección de los elementos de control y su puesta a punto, mediante ensayos basados en las normas ASTM G65 y ASTM G105. La máquina desarrollada permite realizar pruebas automatizadas para la evaluación de la abrasión por vía seca y húmeda.
