| Summary: | This research is based on three axes of analysis: Pious subject, patriot subject and industrious subject. These axes converge in that way of subjectivity that we call citizen and that is combined with the nation project implemented the last decades of nineteenth century in Colombia. In addition to be good Christians and patriots, the citizen must be a worker, with a vision of the future and ruled by values such as savings and personal effort in order to contribute to the enriching of nation, between the changes in market and world economy at the beginning of the Twentieth century. Disciplinary and biopolitic techniques are crucial to the maximization of productivity and the control of the public opinion, that appears as a fertile field to the govern of population and the consolidation of a solid state. The review of the ways of constituting citizens from the historical distance proposed by the book, allows us to understand modes, functions and characteristics of citizenship formation in Colombia, as well as to problematize and trace new horizons of possibility before of contemporary ways of citizenship. |
