| description | The Orinoquia or Orinoco river basin is an area with abundant water and it is a synonymous of wealth being, beauty and biodiversity. Because of the importance of this Basin, this book focuses on determining the relationship between surface water, groundwater and the climate changes the planet is experiencing. Several methods and tools were used to do this, from the measurement of water flows from rivers, wells, shallow wells and even precipitation; well tests, soil analysis, geophysical radiography of the subsoil, and chemical analysis, in order to determine the lithology of the rocks that contain it, the chemical and isotopic composition of their waters and thus understand their quality, origins and correlations. Although the Orinoquia region is related to abundant water, in recent years there are perceived challenges that could jeopardize such abundance: The expansion of agro-industry, the increase in hydrocarbon exploration and population, at the same time, the increasingly present climate change that brings an unpredictable climate, stronger heat waves, droughts and severe rainfall with floods. Finally, this research reflects on how the use of the abundant resources of the basin is generating significant changes in the environment that constitute threats to the natural resources themselves, and that are generating new environmental challenges to fragile ecosystems; also, the use of the resources is risking the environmental services they could provide, and as a result, they are impacting the quality of life of the inhabitants of the Orinoquia region. |

La cuenca del río Orinoco u Orinoquía es una zona con abundante agua y sinónimo de riqueza, belleza y biodiversidad. Por la importancia de dicha cuenca, este libro se centra en determinar la relación entre, las aguas de superficie, las aguas subterráneas o del subsuelo y los cambios climáticos que el planeta está experimentando. Para esto se utilizaron diversos métodos y herramientas desde la medición de caudales de agua de los ríos, pozos, aljibes y aún de la precipitación; pasando por, pruebas de pozos, análisis de suelos, radiografía geofísica del subsuelo, y análisis químicos, con el fin de determinar la litología de las rocas que la contienen, la composición química e isotópica de sus aguas y así entender su calidad, orígenes y correlaciones. Aunque la Orinoquía se relaciona con abundante agua, en los últimos años se perciben desafíos que podrían poner en peligro dicha abundancia: la ampliación de la agro-industria, el aumento de la exploración de los hidrocarburos, el aumento de la población, y el cada vez más presente cambio climático que trae consigo un clima cada vez más impredecible, olas de calor más fuertes, sequías e inundaciones más severas. Finalmente, esta investigación hace una reflexión sobre cómo el aprovechamiento de los abundantes recursos de la cuenca está causando cambios significativos en el entorno que se constituyen en amenazas sobre los mismos recursos naturales, y que presentan nuevos desafíos ambientales sobre los frágiles ecosistemas, y sobre los servicios ambientales que podrían prestar; y como resultado, están impactando la calidad de vida de los habitantes de la Orinoquía.
