Strategic areas and ecosystems of the basin were identified and a socio-economic analysis of production units of the area was carried out, identifying the most representative land uses. Subsequently, the authors estimated the production functions of the main currently crops to calculate net current value of the opportunity cost of the watershed property areas for 5- and 10-years contracts. Finally, it is concluded on the possibilities of implementation of schemes of the kind of environmental services payment in that basin, according to the reviewed literature and the analysis of results. |

Con este artículo se pretende contribuir al diagnóstico previo al diseño de un esquema de pagos por servicios ambientales (PSA), a través de la estimación de los costos de oportunidad (CO) relacionados con la decisión de renunciar a desarrollar actividades agrícolas convencionales, con el propósito de conservar o restaurar áreas páramo y zona de protección del humedal en la cuenca del lago de Tota (departamento de Boyacá, Colombia). Se identificaron las áreas y ecosistemas estratégicos de la cuenca y se realizó un análisis socioeconómico de las unidades productoras que existen en la zona, a fin de identificar los usos del suelo representativos. Posteriormente, se estimaron las funciones de producción de los principales cultivos existentes para calcular el valor presente neto del costo de oportunidad de las áreas de los predios de la cuenca para contratos de PSA a cinco y diez años de duración. En último término, se concluye sobre las posibilidades de implementación de esquemas de tipo PSA en dicha cuenca, conforme con la literatura revisada y el análisis de resultados.
