Uno de los problemas más apremiantes actualmente en Colombia es la alta tasa de desempleo. Aunque, en realidad, este no es solo un problema para el país, porque uno de los objetivos macroeconómicos fundamentales de cualquier nación es contener el desempleo. Si bien es cierto que el nivel de desocupación debe ajustarse al tamaño y la composición de la economía analizada, la tasa de desempleo no debe exceder ciertos niveles, porque ello podría atentar contra la estabilidad política.
