description | The aim of this article is to reflect on the different theoretical positions on the school as an institution of modernity. The central argument aims to interpret the most relevant approaches that some intellectuals have on the school. The methodology used was the reading of documents, categorisation, analysis and comparison of contents between the different authors. The results obtained show that the school, among others, is read and interpreted as a public establishment, an institution where discipline, control and social mobility are exercised, a place where values are institutionalised and measured, and as a space for social reproduction. In conclusion, dissimilar interpretations are identified that invite us to make these theoretical approaches more complex in a new perspective that links the research of intellectuals with the policies of the state and the subjectivities of those who inhabit the space-time of the school institution as a permanent field of research. |

Este artículo tiene como objetivo reflexionar sobre las diferentes posiciones teóricas acerca de la escuela como institución de la modernidad. El argumento central apunta a interpretar los enfoques más relevantes que sobre la escuela tienen algunos intelectuales. La metodología que se utilizó fue la lectura de los documentos, la categorización, el análisis y comparación de contenidos entre los diferentes autores trabajados. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que la escuela entre otros, es leída e interpretada como: establecimiento público, institución donde se ejerce disciplina, control y espacio para la movilidad social, lugar en donde se institucionalizan y miden los valores y, como espacio de reproducción social. Como conclusión, se identifican interpretaciones disimiles que invitan a complejizar estas aproximaciones teóricas en una nueva mirada que enlace las investigaciones de los intelectuales con las políticas del Estado y las subjetividades de los que habitan el espacio-tiempo de la institución escolar, como campo de investigación permanente. O objetivo deste artigo é refletir sobre as diferentes posições teóricas sobre a escola como instituição da modernidade. O argumento central visa interpretar as abordagens mais relevantes que alguns intelectuais têm sobre a escola. A metodologia utilizada foi a leitura de documentos, categorização, análise e comparação de conteúdos entre os diferentes autores. Os resultados obtidos mostram que a escola, entre outros, é lida e interpretada como um estabelecimento público, uma instituição onde se exerce a disciplina, o controlo e a mobilidade social, um lugar onde se institucionalizam e medem valores, e como um espaço de reprodução social. Em conclusão, identificam-se interpretações díspares que nos convidam a complexificar estas abordagens teóricas numa nova perspetiva que relaciona a investigação dos intelectuais com as políticas do Estado e as subjectividades daqueles que habitam o espaço-tempo da instituição escolar como um campo permanente de investigação.
