description | Objective: This article offers an approach to the academic field of communication/education in Latin America. It examines the role of three institutions on the emergence and development of this field in some intellectual circles of the continent. These institutions are as follows: the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); the Latin American Association of Communication Researchers (ALAIC), and the International Center for Higher Studies in Communication for Latin America (CIESPAL).
Originality/contribution: This approach contributes to the reflection on new technologies in educational spaces in recent years. We take into account that this relationship is treated as a location of enunciation by the communication/education domain.
Method: A documentary review of the institutions mentioned above with conceptual locations of sociology used as a research tool.
Strategies/information gathering: archival research based on relevant documents from the three institutions. The texts were selected in order of importance from the state of the art and the consolidation of documentary sources.
Conclusions: The present work updates discussions proper to the field of education and information and communication technologies, beyond instrumental reductionisms. These discussions offer a perspective on the intrinsic problems of teaching, on the use of technologies in schools, and also on possible research topics within this framework of analysis. |

Objetivo: El artículo propone un acercamiento al campo académico de la comunicación/educación en América Latina mediante el examen del papel que tres instituciones, la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura (Unesco); la Asociación Latinoamericana de Investigadores de la Comunicación (Alaic) y el Centro Internacional de Estudios Superiores de Comunicación para América Latina (Ciespal), tuvieron en el origen, emergencia y desarrollo de ese campo en círculos intelectuales del continente. Originalidad / aporte: Este acercamiento —y relación— aporta a la reflexión sobre las nuevas tecnologías en espacios educativos en los últimos años, toda vez que el campo comunicación/educación se ocupa de este vínculo como uno de sus lugares de enunciación. Método: Se lleva a cabo una revisión de documentos de las instituciones señaladas, incorporando al análisis documental ubicaciones conceptuales propias de la sociología como herramienta de trabajo. Estrategias / recolección de información: El trabajo de archivo supuso la revisión de textos clave de las tres instituciones, seleccionados en orden de importancia desde el trabajo del estado del arte y la consolidación de las fuentes documentales. Conclusiones: El presente trabajo actualiza discusiones propias del ámbito de la educación y las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación, más allá de los reduccionismos instrumentales. Pensar dichas discusiones en el campo académico estudiado aporta una mirada a los problemas naturales de la enseñanza, al uso de tecnologías en la escuela y, finalmente, a posibles temas de investigación en este marco de análisis. Objetivo: o artigo propõe uma aproximação do campo acadêmico da comunicação/educação na América Latina mediante uma análise do papel que três instituições, a Organização das Nações Unidas para a Educação, Ciência e Cultura (UNESCO); a associação Latino-americana de Pesquisadores da Comunicação (ALAIC) e o Centro Internacional de Estudos Superiores de Comunicação para a América Latina (CIESPAL), tiveram na origem, surgimento e desenvolvimento desse campo nos círculos intelectuais do continente. Originalidade/contribuição: esta aproximação – e relação – contribui para a reflexão sobre as novas tecnologias em espaços educativos nos últimos anos, toda vez que o campo da comunicação/educação se ocupa desse vínculo como um de seus lugares de enunciação. Método: realizou-se uma revisão de documentos das instituições mencionadas, incorporando à análise documental referenciais conceituais próprios da sociologia como ferramenta de trabalho. Estratégias/coleta de dados: o trabalho de arquivo exigiu a revisão de textos chave das três instituições, selecionados em ordem de importância, a partir do trabalho do estado da arte e da consolidação das fontes documentais. Conclusões: o presente trabalho atualiza discussões próprias do campo da educação e das tecnologias da informação e da comunicação, para além dos reducionismos instrumentais. Pensar essas discussões no campo acadêmico estudado possibilita uma perspectiva dos problemas naturais do ensino, do uso de tecnologias na escola e, finalmente, dos possíveis temas de pesquisa neste quadro de análise.
