description The selection, organization of content, evaluation of programs, learning and competences, and the implementation of strategies to teach and learn in accordance with the complex and changing needs of today’s society, are just some of the demands that are necessary for schools and teachers today. In order to respond to these facets, an analysis of the relationships between schools, society and knowledge, theory and practice, and training and research is necessary. Teachers are needed who can read, interpret, and makes decisions based on their understanding of a particular context in addition to performing research on their reality in order to transform it. This article reflects on and presents some ideas around this thesis in order to recognize the integrating role challenges have in addition to the challenges posed by today’s society on the teacher.

In order to respond to these facets, an analysis of the relationships between schools, society and knowledge, theory and practice, and training and research is necessary. This article reflects on and presents some ideas around this thesis in order to recognize the integrating role challenges have in addition to the challenges posed by today’s society on the teacher.  La selección, la secuenciación de contenidos, la evaluación de programas, de aprendizajes y de competencias, la puesta en marcha de estrategias para enseñar y aprender acordes con las necesidades complejas y cambiantes de la sociedad actual, entre otras tareas, son algunas de las demandas que se le hacen a la escuela y a los docentes de hoy. Responder a estos aspectos requiere un análisis de las relaciones entre escuela, sociedad y conocimiento, entre teoría y práctica y entre formación e investigación. Se necesita entonces de un profesor que lea, interprete y tome decisiones basado en la lectura del contexto, es decir, un profesor que investigue su realidad para transformarla. En el artículo se reflexiona y se exponen algunas ideas alrededor de esta tesis, con el fin de reconocer el papel integrador en los retos y desafíos que plantea la sociedad actual al profesor, y de recuperar el lugar que le corresponde como un intelectual de la educación.  A seleção, a sequenciação de conteúdos, a avaliação de programas, de aprendizagens e de competências, a implementação de estratégias para ensinar e aprender de acordo com as necessidades complexas e cambiantes da sociedade atual, entre outras tarefas, são algumas das demandas que são feitas à escola e aos docentes de hoje. Responder a estes aspectos requer uma análise das relações entre escola, sociedade e conhecimento, entre teoria e prática e entre formação e pesquisa. Necessita-se então de um professor que leia, interprete e tome decisões baseado na leitura do contexto, ou seja, um professor que pesquise sua realidade para transformá-la.
