El artículo parte de una breve reseña del nacimiento del Derecho Internacional Humanitario, la creación de cortes penales internacionales y, en concreto, de la Corte Penal Internacional (CPI) y su competencia, con el fin de relievar la importancia histórica que progresivamente ha ido teniendo el tema de los derechos humanos, así como el propósito de protección de los mismos, para luego analizar la incidencia, con motivo de la ratificación que hizo Colombia de su sometimiento al Estatuto de la Corte Penal Internacional en el conflicto armado interno, con el fin de establecer si efectivamente ello ha logrado o no un aporte importante para la pacificación, morigeración o disminución del conflicto armado Colombiano.
