Se presenta el análisis de las características físicas, químicas y microbiológicas de los lodos producidos bajo un sistema de tratamiento biológico de aguas residuales domésticas, específicamente de lodos activados con aireación extendida para una planta que trata un flujo de 103 m3/h. Se clasificó el lodo generado en la Planta de Tratamiento de Aguas Residuales de Paipa según las concentraciones de metales pesados y patógenos presentes, de acuerdo con la normatividad internacional vigente, y se analizaron las diferentes alternativas de uso o disposición final, soportándose en normas preliminares colombianas y estándares internacionales, se incluye, además, el análisis de la disposición final sin ninguna intención de reciclaje o recuperación, como lo es el relleno sanitario y la incineración, junto con la evaluación de las diferentes alternativas para plantear la solución más viable desde el punto de vista ambiental, sanitario, económico y social.
