We aim to study how these institutions functioned as true sounding boards and alternatives to the needs of the social whole, which promoted them in a clear interaction of ideological, social, and economic factors.
This perspective attempts to be global and will, therefore, require an examination of regional contexts and their productive possibilities, capable of sustaining religious communities according to the regulations from the Council of Trent. This article approaches a broad historiographical base for a better contextualization of the documentary sources that reveal the beginnings of the convents. The varied bibliography and documents will support a deep and accurate analysis of the social links that the female religious institutions created between the 16th and 17th centuries, and the settlement processes linked to the emergence of female convents and their presence in the Castilianisation of the urban areas of the Audiencia of Santa Fe and the Government of Popayán.

Entre 1575 y 1651 se fundaron 13 conventos de monjas en gran parte de lo que hoy es el territorio de la República de Colombia. En el siguiente artículo nos proponemos analizar los vínculos entre dichos conventos y el medio social y económico donde surgieron. Pretendemos estudiar la manera en que estas instituciones funcionaban como verdaderas cajas de resonancias y alternativa a las necesidades del conjunto social, que las promovía en una clara interacción de factores ideológicos, sociales y económicos. Esta perspectiva pretende ser global, por lo tanto, exigirá mirar contextos regionales y sus posibilidades productivas capaces de sostener a las comunidades religiosas de acuerdo a las normativas procedentes del Concilio de Trento. El presente artículo aborda una amplia base historiográfica para una mejor contextualización de las fuentes documentales que revelan los inicios de los conventos. La alternancia bibliográfica y los documentos sustentarán un análisis profundo y adecuado de los vínculos sociales que las instituciones religiosas femeninas generaron entre el siglo XVI y XVII y los procesos de poblamiento vinculados al surgimiento de conventos femeninos y su presencia en la castellanización de los ámbitos urbanos de la Audiencia de Santa Fe y la Gobernación de Popayán. Entre 1575 et 1651, 13 couvents ont été fondés dans une grande partie de ce qui est aujourd’hui le territoire de la République de Colombie. Dans l’article suivant, nous nous proposons d’analyser les liens entre ces couvents et l’environnement social et économique où ils sont nés. Nous nous proposons d’étudier la manière dont ces institutions ont fonctionné comme des véritables caisses de résonance et une alternative aux besoins du groupe social, qui les a promus dans une interaction claire de facteurs idéologiques, sociaux et économiques. Comme cette perspective se veut globale, il faudra regarder les contextes régionaux et leurs possibilités productives capables de soutenir les communautés religieuses selon les règles du Concile de Trente. Cet article traite d’une grande base historiographique pour une meilleure contextualisation des sources documentaires qui révèlent les débuts des couvents. L’alternance bibliographique et les documents soutiendront une analyse approfondie et adéquate des liens sociaux que les institutions religieuses féminines ont générés entre les XVIe et XVIIe siècles et des processus démographiques liés à l’émergence des couvents féminins et à leur présence dans la castillanisation des zones urbaines de Santa Fe et du Gouvernorat de Popayán.
