description Objective: To present the process of universitarization of teacher formation in Colombian Normal Schools. We focus on three elements: teacher professionalization, education system and quality, and its implementation in the Colombian context. Originality/contribution: we describe the elements of universitarization according to which the Colombian public policy was guided to design and implement the transformation of the Normal Schools. This topic has been little addressed in the country. Method: Historical research in which sources were collected and organized (heuristics and doxography). Based on the documentary analysis, Colombian regulations referring to Normal Schools, the General Education Law and higher education regulations were reviewed. The categories identified were contrasted with the theory to establish the understanding (historical synthesis) of the universitarization process in the country. Information strategy/data collection: To collect the information, Colombian legislation since 1970, the time when schools began to be transformed in Latin America, was consulted at the Centro de documentación del Ministerio de Educación Nacional. A review of databases, reflection and research articles, master's and doctoral theses, and books on universitarization and teacher formation was also carried out. Conclusions: The Normal Schools in Colombia have undergone an  universitarization process of teacher formation since the incorporation of the university model, which has led to a change in the institutional organization, naming, curricula, and the funding of the complementary cycle of studies.

Objetivo: Dar a conocer cómo ha sido el proceso de universitarización de la formación docente en las Escuelas Normales colombianas, atendiendo a tres elementos: profesionalización docente, sistema educativo y calidad educativa, y a qué forma de implementación corresponde en el contexto colombiano. Originalidad/aporte: Se evidencian los elementos de la universitarización que se adoptaron en la política pública colombiana para la transformación de las Escuelas Normales, y la forma de implementación. Este tema ha sido poco abordado en el país. Método: Investigación de tipo histórico en la que se recolectaron y organizaron fuentes (heurística y doxografía). A partir del análisis documental se revisó la normativa colombiana referida a las Escuelas Normales, la Ley General de Educación y normatividad de la educación superior, identificándose categorías que fueron contrastadas con la teoría para establecer la comprensión (síntesis histórica) de la implementación de la universitarización en el país. Estrategias/recolección de información: Para recolectar la información, se revisó la legislación colombiana en el Centro de documentación del Ministerio de Educación Nacional, desde 1970, tiempo en el que en Latinoamérica se empezaron a transformar las escuelas y se revisaron en bases de datos, artículos de reflexión e investigación, tesis de maestría y doctorado, y libros que abordan la universitarización y la formación docente. Conclusiones: Las Escuelas Normales en Colombia han estado en el proceso de universitarización de la formación docente a partir de la incorporación del modelo universitario, lo que ha conllevado un cambio en la organización institucional, denominación, planes de estudio y financiación en el ciclo complementario.     Objetivo: Dar a conhecer como tem sido o processo de universitarização da formação docente nas Escolas Normais colombianas, levando em conta três elementos: profissionalização docente, sistema educacional e qualidade educacional, e que forma de implementação corresponde no contexto colombiano. Originalidade/contribuição: Os elementos da universitarização que foram adotados na política pública colombiana para a transformação das escolas normais na Colômbia e a forma de implementação são evidentes. Essa questão tem sido pouco abordada no país. Método: pesquisa histórica em que as fontes (heurísticas e doxográficas) foram coletadas e organizadas com base na análise documental, revisou-se a regulamentação colombiana referente às Escolas Normais, a Lei Geral de Educação e a regulamentação do ensino superior; identificar categorias que foram contrastadas com a teoria para estabelecer o entendimento (síntese histórica) da implementação da universitarização no país. Estratégias/coleta de informações: Para coletar as informações, o Centro de Documentação do Ministério da Educação Nacional revisou a legislação colombiana a partir de 1970, época em que as escolas começaram a se transformar na América Latina e foram revisadas em bases de dados, artigos de reflexão e pesquisa, mestrado e teses de doutorado, e livros que abordam a universitarização e a formação de professores. Conclusões: As Escolas Normais da Colômbia estão em processo de universitarização de formação de professores desde a incorporação do modelo universitário, o que levou a uma mudança na organização institucional, denominação, planos de estudo e financiamento no ciclo complementar.
