Therefore, he is a figure to be viewed from two perspectives regarding his actions in Peru: first, from his military role, being considered the «Robespierre of the Andes» for his radicalism, and second, as a promoter of education with a popular tone.

El presente artículo se encuentra dividido en tres partes, la primera describe el contexto biográfico educativo de Monteagudo, su condición social y cómo este se relaciona con su fomento por la educación popular, comprende desde sus primeras letras hasta sus estudios en Chuquisaca y Europa producto de su destierro. Posteriormente, se delinea la postura política de Monteagudo en el Perú y su relación con la educación en un contexto histórico en el que los conservadores se oponían a todo cambio sustancial a favor de la plebe. Finalmente, se relaciona el pensamiento político-educativo de Monteagudo con el establecimiento de la Escuela Normal donde se concluye que fue éste el principal impulsor de mencionada institución y, por tanto, un personaje a quien debe mirársele desde dos ángulos respecto a su accionar en el Perú, la primera a partir de su accionar militar considerándosele como Robespierre de los andes por su radicalismo, y segundo como el impulsor de una educación con rostro popular. Cet article est divisé en trois parties: la première décrit lecontexte biographique éducatif de Monteagudo, sa condition sociale et comment cela est lié à sa promotion de l’éducation populaire, depuis ses premières lettres jusqu’à ses études à Chuquisaca et en Europe, suite à son exil. Par la suite, la position politique de Monteagudo au Pérou et sa relation avec l’éducation sont décrites dans un contexte historique dans lequel les conservateurs s’opposaient à tout changement substantiel en faveur de la plèbe. Enfin, la pensée politico-éducative de Monteagudo est liée à la création de l’École Normale où l’on conclut qu’il fut le principal promoteur de ladite institution et, par conséquent, un personnage qui doit être regardé sous deux angles par rapport à ses actions au Pérou, le premier de par ses actions militaires, le considérant comme Robespierredes Andes pour son radicalisme, et le second comme promoteur d’une éducation à visage populaire.
