description Objective: This academic article aims to describe the results of the network of Educational Television Centers for the Middle Level (Tevecentros) in the Dominican Republic based on the scores achieved by students in national tests. Originality/contribution: The network successfully responded to the lack of places and the low quality of secondary education for poor young people in rural communities, a regional malady, and despite its success it was neglected and abandoned. Studying its sense of opportunity and relevance is an original and relevant contribution. Method: There was a review of numerous documents and available literature, deductively, abundant accumulated experiences, direct and indirect, were identified and systematized; then, inductively, critical analysis and reflections were made on the impact and results of the referred program, which, like others, was one of the country's efforts in education since the mid-1990s. Strategies/information collection: As part of the strategy followed, the main problems of secondary education in the region, milestones of non-presential and semi-presential education and the historical series of national test scores of the Dominican Republic as an indicator of learning were studied. Conclusions: It was concluded in that it improved the quota and student learning outcomes were positive, so the model should have been strengthened and replicated as a strategic secondary education solution for the Dominican rural area; instead, it was neglected and abandoned.

Objetivo: Este articulo académico tiene como objetivo describir los resultados de la red de Centros de Televisión Educativa para el Nivel Medio (Tevecentros) de la República Dominicana a partir de las calificaciones logradas por los estudiantes en las pruebas nacionales. Originalidad/aporte: La red respondió satisfactoriamente a la falta de cupos y a la baja calidad de la educación secundaria destinada a los jóvenes pobres de las comunidades rurales, un mal de la región, y pesar de su éxito fue desatendida y abandonada. Estudiar su sentido de oportunidad y pertinencia es un aporte original, relevante. Método: Hubo revisión de numerosos documentos y la literatura disponible, deductivamente fueron identificadas y sistematizadas abundantes experiencias acumuladas, directas e indirectas; luego, en forma inductiva, se hicieron análisis y reflexiones críticas sobre el impacto y los resultados del referido programa, que, como otros, fue uno de los esfuerzos del país en educación desde mediados de la década de 1990. Estrategia/recolección de información: Como parte de la estrategia seguida fueron estudiados los problemas principales de la educación secundaria en la región, hitos de la educación no presencial y semi-presencial y las series históricas de calificaciones de las pruebas nacionales de la República Dominicana como indicador de los aprendizajes. Conclusiones: Se concluyó en que mejoró el cupo y los resultados de aprendizaje de los estudiantes fueron positivos, por lo que el modelo debió ser fortalecido y replicado como solución estratégica de educación secundaria para la zona rural dominicana; en cambio, fue desatendido y abandonado.     Objectivo: Este artigo académico visa descrever os resultados da rede de Centros de Televisão Educativa para o Nível Médio (Tevecentros) na República Dominicana com base nas pontuações obtidas pelos estudantes em testes nacionais. Originalidade/contribuição: A rede respondeu com sucesso à falta de lugares e à baixa qualidade do ensino secundário para jovens pobres em comunidades rurais, uma doença regional, e apesar do seu sucesso, foi negligenciada e abandonada. O estudo da sua oportunidade e relevância é uma contribuição original e relevante. Método:  Numerosos documentos e literatura disponível foram revistos, e muitas experiências directas e indirectas acumuladas foram dedutivamente identificadas e sistematizadas; depois, indutivamente, foram feitas análises e reflexões críticas sobre o impacto e os resultados do referido programa, que, tal como outros, foi um dos esforços do país na educação desde meados da década de 1990. Estratégias/coleta de informações: Como parte da estratégia seguida, foram estudados os principais problemas do ensino secundário na região, os marcos do ensino não presencial e semi-presencial e as séries históricas de resultados de testes nacionais na República Dominicana como indicador de aprendizagem.
