description | Fresh pea is the second most important legume in Colombia after beans. In the last 15 years, the cultivated area in the country has increased, and the department of Nariño contributes 58% of the national production. The production area is concentrated in the subregion of former province of Obando, in the south of the department, and is cultivated mainly by smallholders. This crop is one of the most representative agricultural production systems in the region, a key element of food and nutrition security and one of the main sources of income for rural families. This study identified the typologies of producers in the municipalities of Puerres and Córdoba (Nariño) based on a sample of 117 peas to which a structured survey was applied; the data were analyzed using a hierarchical method and four groups of adopters were established. The main differentiating variables were socio-demographic variables, crop experience, technology adoption and its relationship with quality of life and migration processes. This type of analysis contributes to several purposes, from understanding to a certain extent the complexity of rural societies, as well as defining public policies and identifying key aspects for technology adoption. |

La arveja fresca es la segunda leguminosa más importante en Colombia después del frijol. En los últimos 15 años se ha incrementado el área cultivada en el país y el departamento de Nariño aporta el 58 % de la producción nacional; la zona productora se concentra en la subregión exprovincia Obando en el sur del departamento y se cultiva principalmente por minifundios. Este cultivo es uno de los sistemas de producción agrícola más representativos de la región, un elemento clave de la seguridad alimentaria y nutricional, y una de las principales fuentes de ingresos de las familias rurales. En este estudio se identificaron las tipologías de productores de los municipios de Puerres y Córdoba (Nariño) a partir de una muestra de 117 productores de arveja, a quienes les fue aplicada una encuesta estructurada; los datos se analizaron mediante un método jerárquico y se establecieron cuatro grupos de adoptantes. Las principales variables diferenciadoras fueron las sociodemográficas, experiencia en el cultivo, adopción de tecnología y su relación con la calidad de vida y procesos de migración. Este tipo de análisis contribuye a múltiples propósitos, desde comprender en cierta medida la complejidad de las sociedades rurales, así como en definir políticas públicas y determinar aspectos clave para la adopción de tecnología.
