El artículo expone las coordenadas generales de la educación nacional en América Latina  entre  los  años  1870  y  1930.  Para  alcanzar  este  objetivo  se desplegó  un  proceso  sistemático  de  análisis  de  contenido  de  las  principales fuentes en la materia, el que permitió, entre otras cosas, dar cuenta de la inédita importancia que adquirió  la educación popular en  estos años y del  cómo  las crisis que acompañaron a las  transformaciones económicas y sociales de estos años hicieron que  la educación de signo nacional adquiriera un protagonismonunca antes visto.Palabras  clave: Nación, Educación, América  Latina.
