A comparison is drawn between his reflections on the relationship between text and image as a critic and scholar and his film projects and adaptations of his novels. The article concludes that cinema was one of his main references as a novelist and his incursion into the medium increased his literary prestige. However, Greene maintained a deep distrust of the relationship between literature and cinema and its results and was very critical of them. The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the study of Greene by opening new perspectives and debates on the connections between literature and cinema. |

Este artículo realiza un análisis del texto The Novelist and the Cinema: A Personal Experience de Graham Greene, en el que el autor medita sobre las conexiones entre su literatura y el cine. Se establece una comparativa entre sus reflexiones sobre la relación texto-imagen como crítico y estudioso, sus proyectos cinematográficos y las adaptaciones de sus novelas. El artículo concluye que el cine fue una de sus principales referencias como novelista, y su incursión en el medio aumentó su prestigio literario. Sin embargo, Greene mantuvo una profunda desconfianza de las relaciones entre la literatura y el cine y sus resultados, lo que lo llevó a encarar ambos temas desde una perspectiva bastante crítica. La finalidad del trabajo es establecer nuevas proyecciones sobre las relaciones entre cine y literatura alrededor de la obra y las reflexiones de Graham Greene. Este artigo analisa o texto “The Novelist and the Cinema: A Personal Experience” de Graham Greene, no qual o autor reflete sobre as ligações entre a sua literatura e o cinema em 1958. É feita uma comparação entre as suas reflexões sobre a relação entre texto e imagem como crítico e estudioso e os seus projetos cinematográficos e adaptações dos seus romances. O artigo conclui que o cinema foi uma das suas principais referências como romancista e que a sua incursão no meio aumentou o seu prestígio literário. Contudo, Greene desconfiou profundamente da relação entre literatura e cinema e dos seus resultados, e foi altamente crítico em relação aos mesmos. O objetivo deste artigo é contribuir para o estudo de Greene, abrindo novas perspetivas e debates sobre as ligações entre a literatura e o cinema.
