Although the study does not focus on this sector specifically, the data revealed the growing importance of tourism in the department and the role of foreign languages in its strengthening. In this diagnosis, a document analysis of municipal development plans, a survey, focus groups, and interviews with different actors from the educational, productive, governmental and civil society sectors were carried out. The findings reflect the relevance of tourism in the social and economic development of the regions, as well as the growing importance of foreign languages, especially English, in the provision of tourist services and its close relationship with the vocation of the territories. |

En este artículo reportamos resultados parciales de un diagnóstico de necesidades en temas de lenguas (extranjeras y nativas) en diversos sectores en Antioquia, Colombia, particularmente en lo que refiere al sector turístico. Si bien el estudio no se enfoca en este sector específicamente, los datos revelaron la creciente importancia del turismo en el departamento y el papel de las lenguas extranjeras en su fortalecimiento. En este diagnóstico se llevaron a cabo un análisis documental de planes de desarrollo municipales, una encuesta, grupos focales y entrevistas a diferentes actores del sector educativo, productivo, gubernamental y sociedad civil. Los hallazgos reflejan la relevancia del turismo en el desarrollo social y económico de las regiones, así como la creciente importancia de las lenguas extranjeras, especialmente del inglés, en la provisión de servicios turísticos y su estrecha relación con la vocación de los territorios.
