description This investigation analyzes 340 reader autobiographies written by prospective language and literature teachers, sourced from eight generations at a Chilean university. This cross-sectional, non-experimental study employed the ‘reader stories’ technique to gather information about reading history and preferences, which were identified based on the frequency of the mentioned titles. Results show that the number of books read in childhood, whether traditional or authored children’s literature, is double the number of titles in the subsequent categories, which consist of stories and novels for adults. It can be affirmed that children’s literature plays a paramount role in biographies. However, diachronic profiles reveal that recent generations report fewer children’s stories than their predecessors, and include more titles from the adult genre that are part of the school canon.

El propósito de esta investigación es reconocer las trayectorias lectoras de algunos profesores en formación para establecer su perfil lector, el valor que atribuyen a la lectura literaria y el papel de los mediadores en su implicación con la lectura. Se analizan trescientas cuarenta (340) autobiografías lectoras escritas por futuros docentes de lengua y literatura de ocho generaciones de la Universidad Católica del Maule. Es un estudio no experimental transversal que empleó la técnica “historias de lector” para recolectar información acerca de las preferencias de lectura, detectadas de acuerdo con la frecuencia de los títulos mencionados. Los resultados muestran que los libros leídos en la infancia, ya sea literatura infantil tradicional o de autor, duplican los títulos de las categorías conformadas por cuentos y novelas para adultos. Es posible afirmar que la literatura infantil es central en las biografías; sin embargo, los perfiles diacrónicos revelan que las últimas generaciones reportan menos cuentos infantiles que las precedentes, y más títulos del mundo adulto que forman parte del canon escolar. Esta pesquisa analisa 340 autobiografias de leituras escritas por futuros docentes de língua e literatura de oito gerações de uma universidade chilena. Trata-se de estudo transversal, não experimental que utilizou a técnica “histórias de leitor” para coletar informações acerca das preferências de leitura, detetadas de acordo com a frequência dos títulos mencionados. Os resultados mostram que os livros lidos na infância, seja literatura infantil tradicional ou de autores, dobram os títulos das seguintes categorias, compostas por contos e romances para adultos. É possível afirmar que a literatura  infantil é central nas biografias, no entanto, os perfis diacrônicos revelam que as gerações recentes relatam menos histórias infantis do que as anteriores, e mais títulos do mundo adulto que fazem parte do cânone escolar.
