description | In order to guarantee our survival, technology transforms food production by controlling biotic and abiotic conditions to achieve the best results. The genetics of the crops were modified, pests, diseases and weeds are controlled, the times and quantities of irrigation required are determined, microclimates are created, a whole series of agronomic practices and management are applied. In the case of soil, deterministic constantly adds nutrients for the success of crops, and it is even replaced by substrates or nutritional substances that are easy to handle and more efficient.
Although Soil Science is reinvented by studying multiple current problems and topics of interest, soil is considered the key to mitigating the climate crisis, with the first 30 cm being where almost double the carbon in the entire atmosphere is concentrated. If this plays an important role in Climate Change, another obligation of agronomic technology, different from solving problems around food, is to convert the soil into the second largest natural CO2 sink, followed by the oceans.
Therefore, this issue included different studies aimed at improving the quality and sustainability of soil. We hope to contribute with this collection of works to the knowledge of production systems and solutions to environmental problems. |

Para garantizar nuestra supervivencia, la tecnología transforma la producción de alimentos al controlar las condicionales bióticas y abióticas para lograr los mejores resultados. Se modificó la genética de los cultivos, se controlan las plagas, enfermedades y arvenses, se determinan los momentos y cantidades de riego requerido, se crean microclimas, se aplican toda una serie de prácticas y manejos agronómicos. En el caso del suelo, el determinísmo adiciona constantemente nutrientes para el éxito de los cultivos, e incluso es reemplazado por sustratos o sustancias nutritiva de fácil manejo y mayor eficiencia. Aunque la Ciencia del Suelo se reinventa al estudiar múltiples problemáticas actuales y temas de interés, se considera al suelo como la llave para mitigar la crisis climática, siendo los primeros 30 cm donde se concentra casi el doble del carbono existente en toda la atmósfera. Si este juega un papel importante en el Cambio Climático, otra obligación de la tecnificación agronómica diferente a resolver los problemas alrededor de la alimentación, es la de convertir al suelo en el segundo sumidero de CO2 natural más grande seguido de los océanos. Por lo anterior, para este número fueron incluidos diferentes estudios dirigidos a mejorar la calidad y sostenibilidad del suelo, esperamos contribuir con esta colección de trabajos al conocimiento de los sistemas de producción y soluciones de los problemas ambientales.
