Description
Summary:Objective: The objective of this article is to elucidate the meaning of the university-industry relationship in Latin America for the development of science, technology and innovation. This in order to advance towards adequate alternatives for the region and specifically for Colombia. Originality/contribution: The contribution consists in the reflection of approaches centered on education and pedagogy, because these studies, in general, are conceived in political, business, economic or administrative sciences.  Method: The method is historical, critical and hermeneutic. In the methodological framework, several documents from international and national organizations and intellectuals in this field were reviewed.  Conclusions: The research evidences the scarce university-business results and the continuous requirements on improvements to its actors. Obstacles located in social, cultural, political and economic factors in the history of Latin America and Colombia are highlighted.  It is possible to conclude that the university-productive sector relationship is pertinent for Latin American economic and social developments, but it requires great reflections towards the educational sector.
