description Objective: The objective of this article is to elucidate the meaning of the university-industry relationship in Latin America for the development of science, technology and innovation. This in order to advance towards adequate alternatives for the region and specifically for Colombia. Originality/contribution: The contribution consists in the reflection of approaches centered on education and pedagogy, because these studies, in general, are conceived in political, business, economic or administrative sciences.  Method: The method is historical, critical and hermeneutic. In the methodological framework, several documents from international and national organizations and intellectuals in this field were reviewed.  Conclusions: The research evidences the scarce university-business results and the continuous requirements on improvements to its actors. Obstacles located in social, cultural, political and economic factors in the history of Latin America and Colombia are highlighted.  It is possible to conclude that the university-productive sector relationship is pertinent for Latin American economic and social developments, but it requires great reflections towards the educational sector.

Objetivo: Dilucidar la pertinencia de la relación universidad-empresa en Latinoamérica para el desarrollo de la ciencia, la tecnología y la innovación, con el fin de avanzar hacia alternativas adecuadas para la región y, en concreto, para Colombia. Originalidad/aporte: El aporte se sustenta en la reflexión sobre planteamientos, centrados en la educación en la universidad, hacia la productividad, a partir de la relación universidad-empresa debido a que, en general, estos estudios provienen de las ciencias políticas, empresariales, económicas o administrativas. Método: El método es histórico, crítico y hermenéutico. Estrategias/recolección de información: En el marco metodológico se revisaron diversos documentos de organismos internacionales, nacionales y de intelectuales en este campo. Conclusiones: La investigación evidencia los escasos resultados universidad-empresa y los continuos requerimientos a sus actores sobre las mejoras. Se destacan obstáculos situados en factores sociales, culturales, políticos y económicos en la historia de Latinoamérica y de Colombia que dan paso a proponer la relación universidad-sector productivo, por su pertinencia en los procesos educativos que realiza la universidad, desde la investigación y la proyección social hacia los desarrollos económicos y sociales latinoamericanos, en especial para Colombia. Objetivo: Elucidar a relevância da relação universidade-empresa na América Latina para o desenvolvimento da ciência, tecnologia e inovação, a fim de avançar em direção a alternativas adequadas para a região e, especificamente, para a Colômbia. Originalidade/contribuição: A contribuição baseia-se na reflexão sobre abordagens, centradas na educação na universidade, rumo à produtividade, baseadas na relação universidade-empresa porque, em geral, estes estudos provêm das ciências políticas e empresariais, económicas ou administrativas. Método: O método é histórico, crítico e hermenêutico. Estratégias/recolha de informação: No quadro metodológico foram revistos vários documentos de organizações e intelectuais internacionais e nacionais desta área. Conclusões: A pesquisa mostra os fracos resultados universidade-empresa e as contínuas solicitações aos seus atores por melhorias. Destacam-se os obstáculos localizados em fatores sociais, culturais, políticos e econômicos da história da América Latina e da Colômbia, que dão origem a propor a relação universidade-setor produtivo, devido à sua relevância nos processos educativos realizados pela universidade, a partir da pesquisa e projeção social para o desenvolvimento econômico e social da América Latina, especialmente para a Colômbia.
