Este artículo pretende, aportar a la visibilidad de actores desconocidos de la historia regional del norte de Chile, mediante el análisis de fuentes documentales, método literal y lógico, presentando las funciones que cumplían los visitadores de escuelas como agentes de laacción educatica planificada desde el Estado y como mecanismo de control político y social, durante el período comprendido entre la incorporación militar de la zona de Arica, (1880) y su anexión a la soberanía chilena(1929), marcado por un proceso que la historiografía nacional conoce como “Chilenización”.
