description In this study, we examine the topic of a rural boarding school based on the narratives of subjects who had an instructional experience in an educational public institution in the city of Osório/ RS, Brazil, during a rural teachers training project.The subject and the objective of this research fall in the field of History of Education, and the development of gender relations in a coeducational school in the first half of the XX century.This study assumes memory as a document and oral history as methodology.The school represented to these youth the possibility of getting to know a world different   from   their    familiar    culture. It also promoted the dissemination of knowledge and enabled socialization. Plurality, co-education, and harmonious living seem to encapsulate the memories of this institution in Osório as an extraordinary school, a unique experience in the life of those students and teachers. This article discusses the ease of access to rural teacher training by young men who had the guarantee of a permanent situation at school as boarders. This benefit may explain why the profession of rural teacher was sought to a greater extent by men rather than women.

En este estudio, analizamos el tema del internado rural, de las narrativas de los sujetos que experimentaron una experiencia educativa en una institución educativa pública, en el municipio de Osório/RS, que desarrolla un proyecto de formación de maestros rurales. El sujeto y el objeto de esta investigación caen dentro del campo de estudio de la historia de la educación, las relaciones de género basadas en una escuela mixta en mediados del siglo XX, teniendo la memoria mientras el documento y como metodología de la historia Oral. La escuela representada para estos jóvenes la posibilidad de conocer otro mundo, distinto de su cultura familiar, promover la difusión del conocimiento y oportunísima de la alta sociedad. Pluralidad, coeducación y facilidad de uso parecen resumir los recuerdos de esta institución en Osório, como una escuela inusual, una experiencia única en la vida de los estudiantes y profesores han pasado. ¿Qué pasa si se discute es la facilidad de acceso a la formación a los chicos porque habían garantizado la permanencia en la escuela internado docente rural. Es posible que este beneficio explica por qué la profesión de maestro rural era buscada por más chicos que chicas. Neste estudo, abordamos o tema do internato rural, a partir das narrativas de sujeitos que vivenciaram uma experiência educativa em uma instituição de ensino pública, no município de Osório/RS, que desenvolvia um projeto de formação de professores rurais. O tema e o objeto desta investigação se inscrevem no campo dos estudos da História da Educação, tematizando as relações de gênero em uma escola mista na metade do século XX, tendo a memória enquanto documento e a História Oral como metodologia. A escola representava para esses jovens a possibilidade de conhecer um outro mundo, distinto de sua cultura familiar, promovia a difusão de saberes e oportunizava sociabilidades. Pluralidade, co- educação e convivialidades parecem resumir as marcas das memórias desta instituição em Osório, como uma escola incomum, experiência singular na vida de alunos e de professores que por lá passaram. O que se discute é a facilidade de acesso à formação docente rural aos rapazes pois eles tinham garantida a permanência na escola no regime de internato. É possível que esse benefício explique por que a profissão de professor rural fosse buscada por mais rapazes do que moças.
