The archival sources for this work are the electoral acts, electoral protocols, official correspondence and census of the Manizales Cabildo. This corpus allows for the construction of a typology of the suffragist, the assembly and elect chairs, as well as of voting rhythms during the 8 day assembly. The hypothesis is that, thanks to their condition as a direct elections with a public voting system, these elections allowed the economic elite (represented in the founders and members of the evaluation committees for the assignment of plots of land to new colonizers) to constitute itself as a political hierarchy through voting processes. |

Este trabajo se propone estudiar el proceso electoral de 1852 para elegir los vocales del Cabildo de la parroquia de Manizales, con el propósito de describir y analizar, a partir del ejercicio del voto, las prácticas políticas electorales en una sociedad rural y de reciente fundación. El trabajo utiliza como fuentes de archivo las actas y correspondencia del Cabildo, actas electorales, correspondencia oficial y censos. Con este acervo se construye una tipología del sufragante, de la junta y de los vocales electos, así como se establecen los ritmos de votación durante los ocho días de la asamblea. La hipótesis que se sostiene es que estas elecciones permitieron, gracias a su condición de elección directa por parte de los sufragantes parroquiales -y además con un voto público-, a las elites económicas-representadas en los fundadores y miembros de las juntas calificadoras para la entrega de solares a los nuevos pobladores- constituirse en jerarquías políticas a través del voto. Cet article étudie l’élection des conseillers municipaux de la paroisse de Manizales en 1852 avec l’intention de décrire et d’analyser, à travers le suffrage, les pratiques politiques électorales dans une société rurale de fondation récente. A l’aide des registres de la corporation, de sa correspondance oficielle et des recensements nous avons construit une typologie des électeurs, de l’assemblée et des conseillers municipaux élus. Nos avons, en outre, établi les rythmes du suffrage tout au long des huit jours du processus électoral. Notre intention est de montrer comment la modalité directe et publique du suffrage a permis aux élites (constituées par les fondateurs de la localité et les membres des «juntas caliicadoras») d’assumer la répartition des terrains à bâtir parmi les colons et d’édiier ainsi une hiérarchie politique.
