Este trabajo propone una lectura de “Aballay” (1978) de Antonio Di Benedetto. Para ello, parte del problema de la tradición gauchesca que el cuento interroga. En este contexto, discute con las lecturas críticas que leen en “Aballay” una relectura moralista o religiosa de la gauchesca. Propone, por el contrario, una hipótesis sobre el misticismo del protagonista e interpreta su aventura como una experiencia de lo sagrado.
