El gaitanismo y la política que se desarrolló en Colombia durante los años de 1946 a 1948, afectó directamente, a pesar de su aislamiento geográfico con el centro del país, a la ciudad de Villavicencio. Bajo un contexto cultural propio de la región de la Orinoquía, la capital de la entonces Intendencia del Meta, se dio unas particulares formas de Violencia y ejercicio de la política regional caracterizada por: debilidad estatal, control político de una élite local, lucha por el poder local y exclusión de los sectores populares. El presente trabajo estudia entonces los anteriores aspectos, con el fin de aportar a la construcción, de una no agotada, historiografía de la Violencia colombiana.
