These trends are analyzed in order to observe the events that have marked the history of towns, cities and countries during the nation’s formation as well as its civil culture and democratic elections. Likewise, reviewing these historiographical trends enables us to visualize the Colombian bipartisanship which generates controversy, because despite a constant existence of more than one hundred ifty years, it is considered by some to be the constant confrontation between two political factions seeking to gain power. |

En Colombia, la construcción de Ciudadanía y Nación ha estado muy ligada, al igual que en casi toda Latinoamérica, a los procesos electorales. Dichos procesos han sido estudiados desde diversas tendencias historiográficas, por lo que a través del presente artículo se intenta hacer una revisión de estas tendencias, que pueden servir como base al pretender escribir historia de los partidos políticos. Se analizan las tendencias de estudio a través de las cuales se han observados los hechos que han marcado la historia de pueblos, ciudades y países en cuanto a formación de nación y cultura ciudadana, democrática y electoral. De igual forma, la revisión de dichas tendencias historiográficas permite visualizar el bipartidismo colombiano, que genera polémica, pues a pesar de una existencia estable de más de ciento cincuenta años, es considerado por algunos como el constante enfrentamiento de dos facciones políticas buscando acceder al poder.
