The geomorphologic evolution of this area is characterized by the existence of at least two main tectonic events, which has been studied from morphometric and fracture analysis. The data indicate the existence of an initially normal left-lateral stress regime during Lower Cretaceous, followed by a left-lateralstress regime during Paleogene. Finally it is inferred the existence of a younger rigth-lateral stress regime that might correspond to a pleistocene tectonc event reported in ohter areas. It is suggested that this methodology can also be applied to similar areas in Colombia, specifically whwrw there are outcrops of igneous or metamorphic basement. |

El área de estudio se localiza en la ciudad de Niterói (cerca de Río de Janeiro), región compuesta principalmente por rocas precámbricas (~560M.a.). La evolución geomorfológica de esta área se caracteriza por la existencia de por lo menos dos eventos tectónicos principales, los cuales han sido estudiados a partir de análisis morfométrico y de fracturas. Los datos indican la existencia de un régimen inicial de esfuerzos normales con componente lateral sinestral durante el Cretáceo Inferior, seguido de un régimen de esfuerzos lateral sinestral durante el Paleógeno. Finalmente, se infiere la existencia de un régimen de esfuerzos lateral destral más joven que puede corresponder a un evento tectónico del Pleistoceno reportado en otras áreas. Se sugiere que este tipo de metodología puede aplicarse también en áreas similares en Colombia, específicamente donde aflora basamento ígneo y metamórfico.
