Así, el artículo aborda al doble como parte del estudio sobre la literatura fantástica en el marco de las narrativas de la posmodernidad. Para ello se retomarán los siguientes ejes: las concepciones múltiples de lo fantástico dadas desde mediados del siglo XX; el paso de la representación moderna a la posmoderna; coincidencia entre la narrativa posmoderna y la representación del doble; la convergencia de duplicidades; el doble social; el doble y las relaciones de género, para culminar con dos apartados sobre la ineficacia de la representación binaria y la deformación de los dobles literarios desde lo paródico y la inestabilidad ontológica.
