Actualmente, los ingenieros están trabajando en hacer más pequeñas y fáciles de usar las maquinas existentes, en vez de desarrollar nuevas. En agricultura, su finalidad es optimizar el uso de maquinaria para asistir al operador en tareas repetitivas, debido a que estos deben concentrarse en manejar de forma precisa la maquinaria agrícola en recorridos paralelos y de alta precisión, para evitar el sobrepaso en el campo. Con los sistemas de guianza de GPS, comúnmente conocidos como guianza con barra de luces o banderillero satelital, el operador manipula la maquinaria, con precisiones de hasta 5 pulgadas en el campo. Este trabajo presenta el estado del arte del uso de sistemas de guianza con GPS en maquinaria, y su aplicación en agricultura de precisión.
