description | Paraguayan teacher Ramón Indalecio Cardozo (1876-1943) is considered the father of the Paraguayan Escuela Nueva Model. He dedicated his life to the integral improvement of the education quality of the country. This article aims to review his life and work, and makes emphasis on the contributions he made to both pedagogy and the working conditions of Paraguayan teachers. Some of his works and textbooks were consulted, especially those related to pedagogical principles and guidelines. Documentary research was used as a method for this review.
The results obtained from books, articles, pamphlets and manuals published by Cardozo were analyzed, systematized and integrated, as well as complementary data on his life and about the impact of his contributions. Recently, interest in Cardozo's proposals has increased; however, it is still necessary to deepen the rescue and understanding of his work beyond the partisan, religious and nationalist biases that have overshadowed his memory to the present day. His educational project was crystallized in Reform 22/24, which did not thrive off, but his legacy is still valid, mainly for teachers who encourage curiosity and democracy in the classroom, even amid personalist pressures and interests alien to education. |

El maestro paraguayo Ramón Indalecio Cardozo (1876-1943) es considerado el padre de la Escuela Nueva paraguaya. Dedicó su vida al mejoramiento integral de la calidad educativa del país. En el presente artículo tiene como objetivo reseñar su vida y obra, poniendo énfasis en los aportes que hizo tanto a la pedagogía como a las condiciones laborales de los maestros y maestras paraguayas. Se consultaron algunas de sus obras, en especial las que tiene relación con principios y lineamientos pedagógicos, así como sus libros de texto. Se aplicó la investigación documental como método para elaborar la presente revisión. Como objeto de análisis se analizaron, sistematizaron e integraron los resultados los libros, artículos, folletos y manuales de autoría de Cardozo publicados, y datos complementarios sobre su vida e impacto obtenidos de trabajos referidos a su aporte. Recientemente ha habido un cierto aumento en el interés sobre las propuestas de Cardozo, sin embargo, aún es necesario profundizar en el rescate y la comprensión de los mismos, más allá de los sesgos partidarios, religiosos y nacionalistas que han ensombrecido su memoria hasta la actualidad. Su proyecto educativo se vio cristalizado en la Reforma 22/24, la cual no prosperó, pero su legado sigue vigente, principalmente para los maestros y maestras que alientan la curiosidad y la democracia en el aula, aun en medio de las presiones personalistas y los intereses extraños a la educación. O professor paraguaio Ramón Indalecio Cardozo (1876-1943) é considerado o pai da Nova Escola Paraguaia. Ele dedicou sua vida à melhoria integral da qualidade educacional do país. O objetivo deste artigo é resgatar sua vida e obra, enfatizando as contribuições que fez tanto à pedagogia quanto às condições de trabalho dos professores paraguaios. Alguns de seus trabalhos foram consultados, especialmente aqueles relacionados a princípios e diretrizes pedagógicas, assim como seus livros didáticos. A pesquisa documental foi aplicada como um método para elaborar a presente revisão. Como objeto de análise, foram analisados, sistematizados e integrados os livros, artigos, brochuras e manuais de autores publicados por Cardozo, além de dados complementares sobre sua vida e impacto obtidos em trabalhos relacionados à sua contribuição. Recentemente, tem havido algum aumento nos juros sobre proposta Cardozo, no entanto, ainda é necessário aprofundar o resgate ea compreensão deles, além apoiantes, preconceitos religiosos e nacionalistas que se sobrepuseram a sua memória até hoje . Seu projeto educacional foi cristalizado na Reforma 22/24, que não prosperou, mas seu legado ainda é válido, principalmente para professores que estimulam a curiosidade e a democracia na sala de aula, mesmo em meio a pressões personalistas e interesses estranhos na educação.
