description This article focuses on the work developed by Mapa Teatro between 1993 and 1994 with eight inmates at La Picota Penitentiary Center, based on a text by Heiner Müller, Der Horatier , from 1976. During this time, an experimental community was constituted, moving between the prison and the theater. Mo- vement between real and imagined spaces led this group of inmates to become aware of their singularity and their relation to the anonymous potency of myth. It also led the directors of Mapa Teatro to ask about the function of witness in presence accomplished by the artist in the act of listening to life, and also to open up the question of whether the artist is or not “a worker of the social imagination” as the German director would have wanted.

Este artículo aborda el trabajo que Mapa Teatro realizó entre 1993 y 1994, en la Penitenciaria Central La Picota con ocho internos, a partir del texto de Heiner Müller, Der Horatier, de 1976. Durante este tiempo, se constituyó una comunidad experimental que se movía entre la prisión y el teatro. El desplazamiento entre espacios imaginados y espacios reales, llevó a que ese grupo de presos tomara conciencia de su singularidad y su vínculo con esa potencia anónima que es el mito. También, a que los directores de Mapa Teatro se preguntaran sobre la función de testigo en presencia que cumple el artista cuando escucha la vida y se abriera la pregunta de si el artista no es en última un “trabajador de la imaginación social” como pretendía el director alemán.
