El artículo discute los desarrollos recientes de los estudios de memoria al inicio del siglo XX y las dinámicas recientes en las políticas de memoria y en la cultura memorialística de América Latina. Basándose en este análisis, el artículo argumenta en favor de repensar los estudios de memoria, poniendo especial énfasis en tres puntos que puedan guiar el futuro de los estudios de memoria en América Latina: memorias y desigualdades, el estudio de la (no-)memoria en sus dos aristas del olvido y del silencio, así como las dinámicas transregionales de la memoria. El artículo cierra con unas reflexiones sobre la importancia de la memoria y los estándares del éxito de una política de memoria. En esta parte, el artículo argumenta que el campo de la memoria siempre será controvertido y que solamente estas disputas pueden garantizar que la memoria se mantenga viva.
