The focus of this study is the qualitative and documentary types of research. The review and analysis of 52 documents were included along with data from Brazil, Spain, and Mexico which have been the countries that have published the most on religious tourism. This issue is primarily addressed by researchers such as touristologists, economists, geographers, and anthropologists. The main findings focus on the fact that visitors to religious tourism destinations are primarily classified as pilgrims, religious tourists, and cultural tourists. |

El artículo aborda la caracterización de la tipología de visitantes a destinos de turismo religioso. Por lo tanto, la pregunta de investigación se orienta a conocer cuál es la tipología de visitantes a destinos de turismo religioso y cómo esta permite su conceptualización a partir de la producción científica. El enfoque es el cualitativo y el tipo de investigación es documental. Se incluyó la revisión y el análisis de 52 documentos. Brasil, España y México han sido los países que más han publicado sobre turismo religioso. Los profesionales que más abordan este tema son turistólogos, economistas, geógrafos y antropólogos. Los principales hallazgos se centran en que los visitantes a destinos de turismo religioso se clasifican en peregrinos, turistas religiosos y turistas culturales. O artigo aborda a caracterização da tipologia de visitantes a destinos de turismo religioso. Portanto, a pergunta de pesquisa orienta-se a conhecer qual é a tipologia de visitantes a destinos de turismo religioso e como esta permite sua conceitualização a partir da produção científica. O enfoque é o qualitativo e o tipo de pesquisa é documental. Incluiu-se a revisão e a análise de 52 documentos. O Brasil, a Espanha e o México têm sido os países que mais têm publicado sobre turismo religioso. Os professionais que mais abordam este tema são turismólogos, economistas, geógrafos e antropólogos. As principais descobertas centram-se em que os visitantes a destinos de turismo religioso classificam-se em peregrinos, turistas religiosos e turistas culturais.
